Abstract	The objective of this Congress was to consider the role science and technology is called upon to play in national development and its relevance to specific needs of member states, particularly with respect to endogenous development. The first section focuses on the role of science and technology education (STE) in national development, discussing: contribution of STE to national goals; contribution of STE to solving major contemporary problems related to development; future trends in STE and their implications for STE related to national development; and implications of the UNCSTD conference for education in science and technology. The second section focuses on strategies for improving STE in relation to development, addressing: contribution of education in building a favorable climate for development/application of science and technology; STE in the perspective of development needs; development of content, methods, and materials for STE; and promotion of the endogenous development of STE. The next section considers international cooperation, discussing: main issues/objective of international cooperation in STE and main areas and methods of international cooperation in this field; role of Unesco and other organizations; and contribution of non-governmental organizations in extending and improving STE, emphasizing developing countries. Suggestions for future action are provided in the final section. (JN)
