| Abstract | The role of information about education in the development of education around the world is considered in this book. The volume begins by examining the needs of various categories of educators for information, the uses to which such information can be put, the processes and reasons for generating and recording information, and the methods and systems used to disseminate information. The author next reviews current practices and systems used for information utilization and dissemination in the major regions of the world. A number of common issues affecting attempts to improve educational information, its dissemination, and its use are then identified and discussed. These issues include the relationship of educational and other types of information, the merits of explicit and implicit policies concerning educational information, the assignment of roles in information networks, the provision of resources to meet information needs, the place of technology, and the role of specialists. The international exchange of educational information is treated next. A concluding section reviews the problems relative to educational information posed by the improvement of educational systems, and some solutions to them, as identified by participants in the 1977 International Conference on Education. An appendix presents the full text of the conference's recommendations. (PGD) |
