AbstractThe Illinois Rural Planning Council spent 1 year developing four task force reports assessing the needs of the state's rural areas and developing solutions to rural problems. The task force reports are principally directed to the Governor and the State Legislature, although the recommendations may be used by federal and state agencies wishing to ensure that their funds and programs are in line with actual rural needs. The objective of the Illinois Rural Revitalization Planning Program is development of comprehensive planning for rural development, especially with regard to the unemployed, those with low family incomes, and minorities. The program is a collaborative interagency process, plus 53 representatives of business, government, and citizen groups who act as the advisory body of the Rural Revitalization Planning Program. This last group, the Illinois Rural Planning Council, was subdivided into the four task forces: natural resources and the environment, human and social services, jobs and the economy, and housing and community development. The final result, a rural strategy for Illinois, will be made an integral part of the Governor's program to strengthen community development and economic vitality. A listing of the specific policies and recommendations by the task forces comprise the majority of the document. (Author/BRR)
