AbstractThe nine papers in this collection are directed toward aspects of family treatment in social work practice. Ranging in focus across the life span from infants to older adults and including material about minority group families in America, all of the papers discuss current practices and programs. The first paper discusses primary prevention practice with families of infants. The second considers the experience of one residential treatment center in changing from a traditional child-centered treatment approach to one more family-centered in nature. Intrafamilial child sexual abuse and the manner in which the underlying treatment assumptions of one program affected the development of that program's structure are discussed in the third paper, while the fourth offers ideas about social work practice with Asian American families. Guidelines for helping troubled teenagers in blended and single-parent families are provided in the fifth paper; the sixth describes two models for treating families who abuse children (the generic family model and the family management model). The seventh paper in the collection discusses an intervention approach utilizing social networks to assist Mexican American families, while the eighth paper discusses aspects of the work of the conciliation court of Los Angeles County. In conclusion, the ninth and final paper describes a mutual help program for widows and widowers. (RH)
