Abstract | This second of three how-to manuals in the Adult Competency Education (ACE) Kit contains the ACE Job Analysis and Instruction Manual and an interview form. The manual presents methods for developing and using ACE job descriptions. The section on creating the job description discusses selecting a job for analysis, interviewing employees, and constructing the job description. Focus of the next section is use of the job description, including diagnostics and program structuring through intake testing, job skill assessment, student competency profile development, reading level determination, and management techniques (contracts, assignment sheets, and records). The section on instruction discusses pretesting and teaching methods used: ACE file (compilation of worksheets), individualizing materials, A.O.K. (attending, organization, and knowledge) for teaching reading, workshops, real-life materials, and manipulatives. The final section on evaluation of student progress discusses posttesting, reviewing, reassessing job skills, and exit testing. A bibliography of instructional materials is provided. Appended exhibits include methodology for locating key entry-level occupations, description of A.O.K., and sample materials, such as pages from a job description, student competency profile, assignment sheet, time card, and math and reading exercises. An eleven-page employee interview form concludes the document. (Also available in ERIC are other manuals, the project final report, and job descriptions--see Note.) (YLB) |
