Abstract	The transformation of an entire institution is documented. Austin College in Austin, Texas underwent a total institutional renewal program during the 1970s that included new approaches to curriculum and innovations in programs for the entering student, faculty development, governance and operational systems and constituency relations. Each of these areas is the subject of a chapter in the book. Each chapter identifies problems in the area confronting Austin College, describes programs the college used to meet those problems and highlights principles emerging from the Austin College experience. After enunciating five principles of institutional change, the author offers suggestions on redefining student/teacher relationships, reshaping traditional curricula, encouraging faculty renewal programs, revamping governance and operations systems and establishing new dimensions in constituency relations. A summary chapter articulates general principles of institutional self-renewal programs that other institutions may wish to follow. (DC)
