Abstract	A case study of the Directorate of Correspondence Courses at Panjab University, an Open University school in India, is presented. Areas of discussion include characteristics of the country, the educational system in India, and the Directorate of Correspondence Courses. Specific topics include: the physical setting; the population; the economy; the government; communications; the various levels or types of education offered in India; characteristics of students of the Directorate of Correspondence Courses; courses; curriculum development; instructional meetings and media; delivery systems; student admission, registration, and records; academic support services; student assessment and testing; and the organization and administration of the university.
