AbstractIntended to assist Agency for International Development (AID) officers, advisors, and health officials in incorporating health planning into national plans for economic development, this second of ten manuals in the International Health Planning Methods Series deals with assessment, planning, and evaluation in the field of environmental health. The material in chapter 1 covers contemporary issues in environmental health. Principles of environmental health assessment, planning, and evaluation are outlined in chapters 2-4. The remaining five chapters discuss the need for improvements in such areas as drinking water supply, wastewater and excreta disposal, and pest control, and point out the occasionally adverse effects of economic development projects. Examples are drawn from the fields of agriculture, industry, transportation, and land-use patterns. The topics of financing water programs and solid waste disposal are also addressed. (A supporting document in the International Health Reference Series containing a literature review and annotated bibliography is available separately as CE 024 224.) (YLB)
