Abstract | Alternative education has been advocated as a means for preventing juvenile delinquency. The argument has been that nontraditional educational programs tailored to the needs of students whose educational careers have been marked by academic failure and/or conflict can increase educational success and thereby forestall delinquent behavior. This paper examines aspects of alternative programs that appear most promising for preventing delinquency and discusses a number of issues in alternative education that merit further research.
