Abstract | This resource book is designed to provide administrators, teachers and other educational personnel with a compendium of information derived from research and current educational practices which will facilitate the implementation of effective organizational and instructional strategies. A brief description of the common characteristics of children at each age level from five to twelve years is offered. Practical guidelines for teachers for making sound decisions, planning effectively, implementing plans and evaluating the instructional process are provided. Suggested time allotments for subject areas (in minutes per week) and sample timetables are presented. Also described are several strategies that may be of practical value to the teacher. These include questioning techniques, marking techniques, lesson planning, peer tutoring, and use of films, bulletin board displays, and notebooks. Additional information on learning resource center timetables, components of an elementary school guidance program, sample lesson plans and questioning strategies is provided in the appendices.
