Abstract | Part I of this book discusses the basic instructional problems in teaching ethnic studies. Some of the major trends are reviewed and the need to expand the definition of ethnic studies and to include content about a range of ethnic groups is discussed. Part II is designed to help teachers acquire the content needed to teach about ethnic groups, to acquaint them with exemplary strategies for teaching key concepts and generalizations with ethnic content, and to help them identify needed materials and resources. Part III highlights and summarizes the major points discussed in the previous chapters and illustrates how the teacher can use the information and strategies presented to develop and teach multiethnic units and curricula which focus on various ethnic groups, including Native Americans, European Americans, Jewish Americans, Afro-Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, and Puerto Ricans.
