Abstract	Patterns of adult development and the role of educational programs to facilitate growth throughout adult life are discussed. The importance of understanding the life-cycle through various concepts of time, socialization, and social rules is emphasized. A review of the literature and past studies on stages of adult development is presented. It is suggested that socialization and growth in personal identity are of great importance to adult education. Adult educators must be sensitive to the needs and expectations of the learners. The difficulty an adult student may have in adjusting to new methods of learning must also be considered and opportunities to explore and practice with self-initiated learning should be provided. Individual resources that will allow the adult student to learn and experience personal growth are examined. The adult educator may be the most important resource for adults, and they must be able to understand the transitions of adulthood, and explore new methods of fostering growth. (SF)
