AbstractThis inventory provides information about development communication training programs for students from developing countries in Master's or Ph.D. programs or short-term non-degree training. A demand is anticipated for training specialists in different sectors--agriculture, education, health, nutrition, and population--in the use of communication to reach sector goals. The type of training desired will vary in time required, from short-term non-degree training to long-term Master's and doctoral level training; in place, from universities and organizations in the United States to in-country locations; and in focus, from production skills and practical problem-solving methods to high level policy-making and planning techniques to sophisticated research skills. This inventory reflects some of this variety of anticipated demand. The descriptions in this report are not meant to be comparative--all the programs have different emphases--but, rather, to provide information for selection of appropriate university resources to meet specific training needs. The institutions described are Cornell University, the East-West Communication Institute, Florida State University, Indiana University, Michigan State University, San Francisco State University, Stanford University, Syracuse University, and the Universities of Chicago, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Pittsburgh, Southern California, Wisconsin, and Texas.
