Abstract	This publication is a World Health Organization (WHO) document. The first part contains the proceedings of the 10th Round Table Conference of the Council of International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS), held in Germany in July 1976, to examine the potential contribution and limitations of medical education in meeting the needs of community health services. The proceedings contain papers by experts in the field of health planning and health manpower development, on health and diseases, their impact on society and their implications in respect to the responsibilities of the medical profession. The second part of this document contains the report of part of the Scientific Session of the 10th General Assembly of CIOMS held in Geneva in November 1976, which was devoted to the problem of medical education regarding new health needs of society and represented a follow-up of the 10th Round Table Conference.
