Abstract	This report on adult education and development in the Arab States was prepared by a panel of experts who convened to examine the adult education situation in Arab countries and exchange experiences regarding the operation of comprehensive adult education programs and services. Section 1, a summary report, overviews the adult education situation in the Arab States. It then covers the main discussion ideas, suggestions, and recommendations regarding several topics, including the overall framework of adult education in the context of national goals and a global educational policy, adult education and the formal educational system, and priorities for action. The program and a list of participants are attached. Section 2, comprising three-fourths of this report, contains eleven working papers and nine lectures that served as the basis for discussion. Some representative titles of these papers and lectures are The Nature of Adult Education and Non-Formal Education; Needs, Trends, Priorities in Adult Education; Access to Adult Education; Literacy and Adult Education for Development; New Concepts in Development and Education and Their Significance on Adult Education; Development, Human Resources, and Adult Education; and Mass Media in Adult Education. Directories of adult education coordinating bodies, departments, and centers in Arab States and an extensive bibliography are attached. (EM)
