Abstract	Focusing on skills and attitudes necessary for responsible action, the handbook describes responsibility education programs for students and suggests resources for promoting program development. Responsibility education is defined as a process which gives students enriched school-directed citizenship experiences. Responsibility education curriculum concentrates on law, economics, ecology, communication, career awareness, and health and safety skills. The document is presented in four major sections. Section I defines responsibility education; discusses content, process, and objectives of responsibility education programs; and provides suggestions for curriculum development. Section II outlines five steps in program development: creating awareness of the need for responsibility education; evaluating programs; and developing, implementing, and evaluating responsibility experiences. Information on implementing each step is offered. Section III identifies responsibility education information, materials, and funding resources in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. The final section describes 46 responsibility education programs in Illinois school districts. For each program, the following information is given: program title, school district, school, address, telephone number, contact person, program objectives, funding, grade level, parent or community participation, and skills.
