AbstractThe curriculum guide presents the activities component of the Human Development Program for grade 6. The Human Development Program (HDP) is an affective curricular approach developed by psychologists to aid teachers in instilling responsibility and self-confidence in children. The nucleus of the Human Development Program is a circle session (called the Magic Circle) in which students and teachers share feelings and thoughts for 20 minutes each day. The guide presents topics and directions for 188 sequential Magic Circle sessions. Each session, which constitutes one segment of a unit based upon a theme such as building trust or communication, relates to one of the following areas of personal development: awareness, self-confidence, or social interaction. Sample circle session topics at the sixth grade focus on encouraging positive feelings, thoughts, and behavior; and building trust. The guide also presents information to the teacher on designing the Human Development Program, preparing the Magic Circle sessions, explaining the topic for discussion, leading the daily session, encouraging children to volunteer to lead a session, and helping the children review and summarize what they learned.
