Abstract | The Women's Re-Entry to Education Program (WREP) at San Jose City College, which offers a supportive program in teaching skills needed for meaningful careers is described in this report. Funded in July 1973, WREP is designed for women who suddenly find themselves confronted with unexpected needs and roles, making it necessary for them to change their career aims or educational goals. It focuses on the low-income, urban woman and is directed to a target population of the economically educationally disadvantaged, welfare recipients, female heads of household, and women seeking new directions in occupational, educational, and personal aims. This report describes various aspects of the WREP program, including: funding requests, courses, staff, program director, instructors, counselor, social services coordinator, clerical secretary, student assistants, consultants, peer tutors, community advisory board, schedule of implementation, recruitment and outreach, inner-dity inner-city workshops, campuses, selection of students, orientation, registration, block scheduling, instruction, English, tutoring, English as a second language, health, course evaluation, grades, counseling, career guidance, personal counseling, group counseling, peer counselors, space, finance, child care, transportation, attrition, testing, attitudes, budgets, program evaluation, and future oulook.
