| Abstract | The two articles in this document deal with the political influence of the press during political campaigns. The first article explores the findings of agenda-setting studies, especially those comparing the agenda-setting effects of television and newspapers, and concludes that, since newspapers are the most important source of public agendas, agenda setting may be the most important effect of mass communication. The second article discusses a Chicago-area study of an off-year (l974) congressional race. Findings of this study suggest that the media not only report the relative importance of issues but also increase the number of issues on the public's priority list. (JM) |
