AbstractTo evaluate the utility and appropriateness of the Vocational-Technical Education Consortium of States (V-TECS) curriculum materials used by vocational and technical instructors in Mississippi, a series of personal interviews were conducted with 62 program directors and 215 faculty members (from both the junior college and secondary levels) who had received the V-TECS materials. After analyzing the data, it was found that only 35% of the directors noted the V-TECS program as appropriate for their overall program and only 44% of the instructors used the program after having received the catalogs. The varied uses of the program and the reasons why the majority of instructors chose not to use the V-TECS materials were summarized. Based upon these summary points, it was concluded that the V-TECS materials are a compendium of outstanding research and planning by professions in the field and should be utilized in vocational technical programs, but with the following considerations: The catalogs, as they are now organized, should not be used as a student textbook; the instructors should be given extensive inservice training; the appropriate catalog should be selected for inservice programs and individual programs; and more coordination between high school and postsecondary programs is needed. (The interview questionnaires and schedules are appended to this document.) (Author/BM)
