AbstractIn a follow-up study of secondary school students who completed vocational education programs in the Roanoke City Public Schools during the 1975-76 school year, students and their employers were asked to rate the effectiveness of the vocational instructional programs in relation to twelve aspects of employment. Questionnaires were sent to 381 students and 59 employers; 51% of the students and 68% of the employers responded. Findings were that 59% of the students employed were full-time employees in fields directly related to their secondary studies, and 70% of the students rated the vocational education instructional program above average. A highlight of the findings was that 31% of the vocational education graduates were now enrolled full time (6% part-time) in postsecondary programs, with 59% of them enrolled in programs directly related to their secondary vocational education studies. Seventy-seven percent of the employers rated the vocational education instructional program above average. A long-range (five-year) study is recommended using the present study as a basic building block. (Author/BL)
