Abstract	Assessment of student progress in community colleges is necessary for several reasons; among them are accountability to the public, improvement of decision-making for both students and educators, and planning and evaluation of curricula. This sourcebook focuses on various types of student progress--vocational, social, academic, transfer--and on problems associated with their assessment, reviews techniques varying from tests of all kinds to interviews and surveys that have been utilized to date, and suggests alternative ways in which student progress can be measured. The articles presented deal with alternative modes of assessing academic achievement, evaluating student readiness for further education, the use of different assessment techniques and policies for evaluating different types of transfer students, evaluating student preparation for work and the efficacy of occupational programs, important affective and socioeconomic considerations in assessing student progress, and evaluating the college in terms of its service to the community. A review of additional pertinent literature and a bibliography are included. Contributors include: Oscar Lenning, Clifford Lunneborg, S. V. Martorana, Richard Rinehart, Brent Mack Shea, Jane Matson, and Leonard Baird. (JDS)
