Abstract | This document contains the proceedings of a conference focusing on the emerging need for postsecondary educational opportunity programs in New York state. The conference consisted of a series of addresses on issues such as the status of equal educational opportunity programs and the changing climate of higher education and the disadvantaged. In addition to the various addresses delivered by experts in the field, workshops were held in several areas including: (1) the ecology of success and failure, (2) new academic programs and the non-traditional student, (3) research and evaluation in an age of accountablity, (4) principles and practices of sound program administration, (5) role of assessment and testing in the diagnostic/ prescriptive process, (6) financial aid and the needy student, (7) counseling the disadvantaged student, (8) issues in the recruitment and admission of the "new" or disadvantaged student, and (9) the role of new curricular and tutorial models in meeting the needs of the educationally disadvantaged.
