| Abstract | Based on information derived from research resumes of the Cooperative State Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), this revised inventory (current as of January 1977) of rural development research at land grant institutions in the Southern States is part of the Southern Rural Development Center's effort to establish a base of knowledge on rural development and to point to gaps in knowledge where research is needed. Research presented in this inventory is limited to the following major USDA "rural development" classifications: (1) Community Facilities; (2) People Building; (3) Economic Development; and (4) Environmental Improvement. Minor subareas of each major area are identified via a matrix of research areas. This inventory presents over 200 active research projects and 167 terminated projects. Each entry contains the following information: a major and minor area classification; a matrix number; a project title; an abstract; a project number; the researcher's name; the performing organization's name and address; the performance period (dates); and the key words.
