Abstract | This report provides the proceedings of the twenty-second Lake Okoboji Educational Media Leadership Conference which dealt with various aspects of visual literacy in education. The general sessions are briefly described. A major portion of the report pertains to nine subtopics: (1) visual literacy in teacher education; (2) implications for the media profession; (3) current visual literacy programs; (4) visual learning; (5) visual literacy and society, especially, the impact of television commercials; (6) visual literacy concerns in a curriculum design process; (7) the design and integration of visual instruction; (8) research and theory in visual literacy; and (9) underlying assumptions of the concept. An appendix lists delegates' definitions of visual literacy, and their concerns about the theme. (SC) |
