Abstract | This handbook is intended as an informal guide for mature women returning to college or starting late. Chapter 1 describes the life patterns of women. Chapter 2 provides statistical information on working mothers, ages of women workers, educational achievement, jobs by sex, and women in labor unions and the labor force. Costs and benefits of jobs and careers is discussed in Chapter 3, e.g. non-financial benefits, emotional costs, day-care costs. Chapter 4 concerns educational opportunities, with attention given to Michigan State University's programs and information on how to apply, full-time or part-time enrollment, adult advising, and fellowships. Chapter 5 explains different legislative acts pertinent to women's rights. The final chapter gives comments about the future and challenge of working women. (WL) |
