Abstract | This workbook presents lessons, workshop sessions, and laboratory exercises designed to help youth and adults clarify personal values and develop decision-making skills. The workbook (or "portable school") provides guidance in procedure and method of values clarification. The learning experiences involve users of the text in establishing criteria, determining meaning, and coming to grips with the value of personal experiences. The lessons are divided into three categories depending upon their complexity. The "Introductory Level" provides information on personal and group decision making. The "Intermediate Level" explores personal values, human needs, and value conflicts. The "Advanced Level" provides information on turning values and abilities developed in the first two categories into plans. Each lesson contains numerous exercises, games, quotations, and stories which reinforce the skill or knowledge to be gained. Sample topics include: the universal life process; how to play the role of a project manager; the standard legal guide to decision making; a lesson in goals, aims, and intentions; a lesson in philosophy; measuring fulfillment; a lesson in planning for interdependence; and developing positive expectations. Resource materials on values, logic, human needs, decision making, and communication are cited. (Author/DB) |
