Abstract | The monograph provides background information, questions and comments about current trends in development theory and practice and their impact on education. It is offered as a framework for consideration by policy makers, planners, and administrators in developing countries and in aid-giving agencies who are concerned with policies and programs to maximize human resource development. In view of the extremely wide range of resources and problems in the developing world, the propositions were necessarily stated in general terms and may be expected to have varying degrees of relevance in different nations. A preface, introduction, and summary are presented, as well as the following chapters: Current Concepts of Development and Their Impact on Education, discussing expanded developmental concepts, educational impact, and distinguishing characteristics of nonformal education; Reformulating National Education Policy For Human Resource Development, discussing sector reviews and policy questions. Appended material includes: notes on the text; a bibliography of 39 references, 10 of which are annotated; and, a listing of international research findings regarding nonformal education and literacy.
