| Abstract | This monograph reports the results of a national study conducted to determine the names of the novels students are most commonly required to read in their high school English courses and the names of their favorite novels, and to recommend methods for teaching novels. The sample for the survey was drawn from the membership of the Conference of Secondary School English Department Chairmen (CSSEDC), an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. An extensive narrative summary of results is provided along with a brief bibliography of books and articles about the teaching of novels. (RB) |
