| Abstract | This manual outlines a competency-based preparation program for school counselors. The program is based on a developmental process which includes specific dimensions of knowlege and self-awareness as well as the professional competencies deemed essential to the practice of counseling. The school counselor's role is defined and three levels of competency and certification are described. The assumptions, rationale and evidence of competence are outlined for each of the entry, initial and continuing levels of competency. Procedures for counselor certification and guidelines for assessment are also provided. (SJL) |
