Abstract | Experienced-Based Career Education (EBCE) is an approach to the problems of youth in relation to career awareness and preparation. EBCE is based on the rationale that exposure to work environments reinforces the acquisition of academic skills and is more effective than traditional classroom approaches. Research for Better Schools, Inc. has developed and implemented a program emphasizing career development, guidance, and basic skills. The evaluation design reflects increasing sophistication of selection procedures, instrumentation, and analysis over the first two years of the project. Results have demonstrated the feasibility of EBCE, significant gains in academic skills, and highly positive attitudes toward the program by students, parents, and employers. (Author) |
