Abstract | Two major objectives underlie the initiation of this project effort: (1) the creation of a meaningful, cooperative effort between the Kent County, Delaware Vocational Technical School District and the Milford School District for the purpose of expanding vocational education and (2) the establishment of a system to serve as a model for future expansion of vocational education in the State. Several cooperatively developed activities aided in the project's success. Some of the objectives realized were: (1) workshops for faculty, staff and teaching teams involving the enlistment of consultants, (2) the initiation of a career education curriculum and guidance program for grades K-12, (3) the design of an operational curriculum based on single and multi-clustered occupational models, (4) the employment of a full-time job placement coordinator and the establishment of a high school job placement and counseling office, (5) increased emphasis on career information and exploration in grades 5-8, (6) the establishment of career education resource centers in school libraries, (7) the implementation of summer career opportunities programs for teacher interns, and (8) continuous evaluation assessments. The project staff worked with 19 of the 26 school districts in Delaware on a cooperative basis. (SN) |
