AbstractEducational reform in Rumania at the elementary, secondary, and university levels has led to a greater emphasis on vocational-technical training and toward promoting further socialist attitudes among all students. The new educational objectives were outlined in a symposium on vocational training in which over 200 Rumanian educators participated. The symposium was held in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Rumanian Communist Party. Conclusions advanced at the conference suggest that the socioeconomic environment of the country be determined, emphasized, and reinforced; that work concepts must be the basis of the educational process; that preparation for a technological culture be fundamental; that school workshops must be converted to work laboratories to prepare students for actual work habits; that more vocational courses such as home economics, metal, and woodwork be offered; that school and student needs be subordinated to society; and that the full energy of the system be expanded toward greater social action. Complete papers, summaries, and an extensive bibliography are included. (DS)
