Abstract	The Regents of New York State propose affirmative action to provide equal opportunity for women and to eliminate discriminatory practices in the educational system. The Regents proposals focus on (1) recruitment and promotion of women in professional and managerial positions in education; (2) ending sexual stereotyping in the elementary and secondary schools through changes in instructional material, inservice training of educational personnel, and assuring that all courses of study are available to girls and boys; and (3) providing equal opportunity for women as students and faculty members in higher education.
