Abstract | The major purpose of the Conference was to bring together the persons who are primarily responsible for the development of library education and library service in the South to assess the programs of library education at all levels in terms of the educational, social, economic, scientific and technological changes in society which must be served by changing patterns of librarianship. The conference participants were divided into four groups to discuss in some depth and to make recommendations relative to: (1) library personnel needs, (2) educational and/or training needs of library personnel, (3) types of specialization of major concern to the library profession and (4) regional cooperation among library schools, library science departments, state library agencies and associations, and the Southeastern Library Association. The conference concluded with the adoption of a resolution to request the Southeastern Library Association to establish a Council on Regional Planning for Library Education. (Author/NH) |
