| Abstract | The problems relating to education and training of meteorological personnel in Africa are considered in the papers contained in this conference report. The papers are presented in seven sessions and pertain to the following: introductory lectures; various categories of meteorological personnel to be trained, including applications of meteorology to the different sections of economic development as well as for the protection of human environment; training facilities in Africa; attracting young people into the meteorological profession, problems related to the retention of trained staff, education of the public on meteorological matters and the inclusion of meteorological subjects in the curricula of secondary schools; impact of advances in the science of meteorology on training, role of computing techniques in the future development of meteorological services in Africa, and refresher courses and retraining; role of the universities in the education and training of meteorological personnel; and other related topics.
