Abstract | It is the endeavor of this paper to provide a broad perspective of the field of population education at the school level with the hope of encouraging teachers to use population-related materials and concepts in their teaching. Some implications of the population situation, the importance of population studies, and problems in introducing population education are all considered. Potential course content is viewed from a total perspective approach considering the broad areas of: (1) collection and analysis of population data, (2) population growth and human development, (3) problems of urbanization, (4) psycho-social aspects of human sexuality and the reproductive process, and (5) population planning. Emphasis throughout is on population education in Asian countries. (BL) |
