Abstract | This report of the survey of corporation support of higher education comes at a time when the corporation and the campus are still suffering from the effects of one of the sharpest economic declines in recent history. As a result, for the first time since the survey was begun in 1956, corporate giving to education declined. Virtually all of the decrease in educational support in 1970 is accounted for by the industries which sustained the greatest slump in pre-tax net income. The overall decrease in educational contributions, however, was small compared to the drop in corporate profits, and there was increased giving by many companies whose earnings experience went counter to the national trend. This is taken to be positive evidence of a continuing commitment on the part of the corporate community and a recognition of the many benefits that it derives from educational institutions.
