Abstract | This publication presents Humboldt State College's experience with the pilot testing of the Resource Requirements Prediction Model (RRPM), an analytic computer designed to aid management decisionmaking and planning in institutions of higher education. RRPM has great potential as a planning tool that can improve resource management in higher education. Its cost computations represent an important first step in the difficult task of allocating costs back to degree winners, the ultimate outputs of the educational process. Used in a predictive mode, RRPM generates a large amount of information relevant to the planning of both support and capital budgets. Used in a simulation mode it provides a powerful tool for examining the consequences of alternative policy formulations. Additionally, RRPM serves as a very suggestive starting point for the definition of a comprehensive data base on one hand and for the further investigation of phenomena that are not now included in the model itself on the other.
