Abstract | With widespread reform of the English grammar and public schools imminent, the development of new structures within the "common" or "comprehensive" schools to assure the continuation of classics and Latin studies is suggested in this booklet. Current educational trends are clarified in articles on: (1) the present situation, (2) the practical problems of reorganization, (3) challenges of reorganization: staffing and courses, (4) humanities for the junior high school, (5) Latin for reading, and (6) classical studies in the Certificate of Secondary Education. Descriptions of the Leicester, Doncaster, West Riding of Yorkshire, and the South East Essex plans are included. (RL) |
