Abstract	The conference aims for primary school social studies teaching are: 1) to create an awareness and an understanding of the evolving social and physical environment as a whole, together with the rational use and conservation of these resources for development; 2) to develop a capacity to learn and to acquire basic skills together with the skills of observation, analysis, inference, and critical thinking; 3) to insure the acquisition of relevant knowledge essential for personal and value development; and, 4) to develop an appreciation of the diversity and interdependence of all members of the local international community. The main functions of the school are to promote the acceptance of change and to foster the notion of individual control over the environment. The specific aspects of change are: national integration, problems of rapid economic development, and the promotion of self-confidence and initiative. In this integrated interdisciplinary approach to learning, the teacher's role is to provide experiences which will provoke questions, to provide media, and to assist the inquiry process, centering around learning techniques rather than subject knowledge. Other methodology includes: inservice and preservice teacher education, multimedia instruction, cognitive and affective testing and evaluation, and conference followup. (SBE)
