Abstract | The primary purposes of this project were to provide data for developing operational proposals and programs for dealing with the dropout problem. Information and statistics were gathered about school dropouts in St. Cloud, Minnesota; age and grade, type of student, current functioning and future plans, expressed reasons for leaving, etiological factors, agency information and attitudes, and committee recommendations. Following each section of data and interpretation are recommendations relevant to that information. Recommendations include: (1) the need for more parental involvement and for continuing curriculum and grade study; (2) the importance of reading problems, (3) broadening the function of the guidance program and counseling services, (4) part-time programs, and (5) inter-agency involvement. The direct service aspect of the program is also discussed. (KP) |
