Abstract | The purpose of this international seminar was to facilitate full analysis, especially in regard to developing nations, of the role assigned to the Trade Union Research Service; its work and methods, its organization, and patterns of cooperation with trade union officers and executives responsible for programs of labor education. On the basis of its work, the seminar had the task of singling out educational requirements for the trade union organizations and examining action by the International Labor Office (ILO) to aid the development of trade union documentation and research services, past experiences in documentation and research, educational work needed to establish and run these services, and the role of the ILO in meeting relevant needs. Social and economic trends, factors affecting the structure and roles of research services, training at various levels, and the ILO Workers' Education Programme, were also considered.
