Abstract | THIS YEARBOOK IS DIRECTED TOWARD EDUCATORS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN BRIDGING EXISTING GAPS IN THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL STUDIES IN THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM. THE VOLUME REPRESENTS THE COLLECTIVE EFFORTS OF WORKERS BOTH IN AND OUTSIDE OF THE FIELD OF EDUCATION. IT IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS. PART 1 DEALS WITH SUCH TOPICS AS (1) THE SOCIAL STUDIES IN A SCIENTIFIC AGE, (2) SCIENCE AND THE SOCIAL STUDIES, (3) THE USE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN IMPROVING LIVING CONDITIONS IN UNDERDEVELOPED COUNTRIES, AND (4) THE INTERNATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL YEAR. PART 2 DISCUSSES (1) SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION, (2) SCIENCE TRANSFORMATIONS IN AMERICAN AGRICULTURE, (3) RESEARCH IN THE MEDICAL SCIENCES, AND (4) APPLIED ATOMIC ENERGY RESEARCH. PART 3 ENCOMPASSES (1) SCIENCE AND SOCIETY--INTELLECTUAL AND SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR DEMOCRACY, (2) SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES IN TODAY'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, (3) THE INTERRELATIONS OF SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, (4) TEACHER EDUCATION, AND (5) A LOOK TOWARD THE FUTURE.
