Abstract | THIS REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE LOS ANGELES CITY SCHOOLS TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION PRESENTS IN DETAIL THE SPECIFIC WAYS IN WHICH THE BOARD'S DIRECTIVES ON EQUALIZING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED. THE 27 DIRECTIVES DEALT WITH THE GENERAL POLICY OF EQUAL EDUCATION, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN OFFICE OF URBAN AFFAIRS, COMPENSATORY EDUCATION PROJECTS, SCHOOL ZONING, PUPIL TRANSFERS, AND DISCIPLINE AND DROPOUTS. THERE WERE ALSO POLICIES ABOUT A RACIAL AND ETHNIC CENSUS, TEACHER TRANSFER AND PROMOTION, CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, COUNSELING SERVICES, AND IMPROVED PROCEDURES FOR COMMUNICATIONS, PUBLIC INFORMATION, AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS. THE REPORT ALLUDES TO MATERIALS AND OTHER EXHIBITS IN SUPPORT OF THE EFFORTS MADE TO IMPLEMENT THE DIRECTIVES. (NH) |
