Abstract | THE PURPOSE OF THIS BRIEF SUBMITTED TO THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION OF THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC IS TO HELP ESTABLISH AN ADULT EDUCATION POLICY FOR FUTURE COLLEGES OF GENERAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION, WHICH WOULD INCLUDE PROVISION FOR ADULTS AT THE FIRST STAGE OF ORGANIZATION RATHER THAN ADDING IT LATER AS EXTENSION ACTIVITY. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE LAID DOWN CONCERNING THE NEEDS OF DROPOUTS AND OTHER POTENTIAL CLIENTELE GROUPS, THE VOCATIONAL AND CULTURAL OBJECTIVES OF POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION, ADULT-CENTERED TEACHING METHODS AND STUDENT SERVICES, INFORMATION SERVICES AND GUIDANCE, ADMISSION STANDARDS, DIPLOMAS, STAFFING, RESEARCH, AND THE PART TO BE PLAYED BY THE GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, AND SOCIAL AGENCIES IN SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING ADULT EDUCATION. POINTS OF PARTICULAR URGENCY ARE--SUITABLE MEANS OF INFORMATION AND COUNSELING, FAIR ADMISSION STANDARDS, APPLIED RESEARCH, AND PROVISION FOR STAFF RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING BY INDIVIDUAL INSTITUTIONS. THE PROMPT CREATION OF ENABLING LEGISLATION TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF ADULT EDUCATION AS SUGGESTED IN THIS BRIEF IS URGED. (LY) |
