Abstract | THE INCIDENCE OF EMOTIONAL DISTURBANCE OR MENTAL ILLNESS APPEARS TO BE LOW IN RURAL YOUTH, AND EVEN LOWER IN RURAL CHILDREN. TYPES OF EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED CHILDREN AND YOUTH ARE THE BRAIN DAMAGED, THE OVERANXIOUS, THE WITHDRAWN, THE UNDOMESTICATED, THE REBELLIOUS, AND THE SOCIALIZED DELINQUENT. THE PAPER STATES THAT TO IMPROVE THE MENTAL HEALTH OF THESE GROUPS, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REDUCE THE EDUCATIONAL ISOLATION, IMPROVE THE MATERNITY CARE, ESTABLISH MENTAL HEALTH CLINICS, EDUCATE PARENTS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH, MAKE COMMUNITIES RESPONSIBLE FOR IRRESPONSIBLE FAMILIES, AND INCREASE THE INSTRUCTION OF MANUAL AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS IN SCHOOL PROGRAMS.
