Abstract | France is known for having advocated for language ecology in its language-in-education regulations and public rhetoric. It offers a large array of foreign languages. The purpose of this chapter is to examine whether the vast spectrum of choices and state propaganda in favor of linguistic diversity corresponds with a considerable variety of languages being taught. The position of English among these languages, as well as the actual implementation of English language teaching, is particularly explored. To create a general understanding, the chapter first presents the French school system and curriculum. The place of foreign languages especially English in French curriculum and English language curriculum in specific the first 3 years of Cycle 2 (primary school) are stated. |
