| Abstract | The present study is based on recently revealed documents which were received by the NSA library from the archive of the great activist and pedagogue in the field of physical education and sport, Joseph Bures (1883-1966). This research uncovered new facts about the history of Bulgarian sport as a whole and Bulgarian water sports in particular. At the end of the nineteenth century, "Yunak" movement adopted civic and national values in its charter. In an attempt to catch up, it developed a unique new concept for body education and sport based on the best practices of all European developed and cultural countries at that time. That was the reason for water sports to be accepted in the Union of Bulgarian Gymnastics Societies "Yunak". (Autor). |
