Abstract | The article deals with effects of changes in society and in schooling taken place in Hungary, the phenomena that led to an intensification of school related differentiation. It was a transformation with winners and losers. Differences can be perceived in the social, cultural and schooling fields. Circumstances denoting disadvantage combine in the northern and eastern areas of the country. There were conflicting processes that occurred in the operation of the school system. Pluralism of maintainers and programmes resulted in a variety of structures and content. The transformation turned Hungarian schooling into one of the most diversified models in Europe. The differentiation renders stepping school grades more difficult and produces differences of chances for disadvantaged social strata and regions. (DIPF/Orig.). |
